What to do & when

Countdown for the Groom


    Twelve to Six Months

  • Decide on date, location and time
  • Hire a wedding consultant so that you and your fiancé will enjoy your engagement time and not have to deal with the stress of the details
  • Meet with officiate to discuss ceremony
  • Choose your best man – he needs to be supportive and organized
  • Choose Ushers. One usher per fifty guests is recommended.
  • Compile Guest list
  • Discuss wedding expenses and budget with fiancé’ and all parents
  • Select Gift Registry
  • Discuss honeymoon plans. If traveling abroad, get all documents ready including passports, visas and get any required inoculations

    Five Months

  • Help fiancé select invitations, stationary and thank you notes

    Four Months

  • Coordinate groomsmen attire. Set up fittings for tuxedo rentals and make sure they have all necessary accessories such as vest, tie, matching shoes and socks
  • Confirm transportation arrangement with your best man
  • Choose wedding rings

    Three Months

  • Give to fiancé’ your completed guest list
  • Order wedding attire for yourself, best man, ushers and fathers
  • Arrangement transportation (limousines, etc.). Interview limousine companies and make arrangements for transportation to the wedding, and reception hall.
    Make sure to provide the transportation company with accurate directions and with a time schedule of the day’s events.
  • Complete honeymoon plans: buy tickets, arrange hotel, etc.
  • Arrange for wedding night hotel accommodations
  • Order wedding rings and engraving

    Two Months

  • Plan rehearsal dinner with your parents
  • Consult with fiancé and arrange lodging for relatives and ushers from out of town
  • Choose presents for bride, best man and ushers
  • Make sure all documents are in order (legal, insurance, financial, medical and religious)
  • Reconfirm all bookings

    Two Weeks

  • Make a date with your fiancé to get the marriage license
  • Arrange for transportation from the reception to the wedding night location, airport, etc

    One Week

  • Remind best man and ushers of the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner details.
  • Arrange for rental returns
  • Be sure you and your bride sign the wedding certificate and see that is it safely put away before leaving on your honeymoon
  • Pack for honeymoon

    Day Before

  • Help decorate venue if necessary
  • Attend rehearsal and rehearsal dinner
  • Distribute gifts to best man and ushers at rehearsal dinner

    Day Of

  • Arrive at the ceremony location one hour prior to the scheduled time
  • Photos with attendants
  • Bring thank you gifts

Your wedding is one of the most treasured events in your life and you want it to be memorable for you as well as those sharing in your special day.  Twelve to Six Months

  • Determine Budget and determine who will be paying for what
  • Reserve the location of Ceremony, Rehearsal & Reception Venue
  • Compose Guest List
  • Research & Choose Professional Photographer / Videographer
  • Research & Choose Musicians for wedding and DJ or musicians for reception
  • Research & Choose Florist
  • Research & Choose a caterer
  • Research & Choose a baker
  • Sign contracts and pay deposits
  • Shop for wedding gown and headpiece
  • Select bridal attendants
  • Set a date to order dresses for bridesmaids
  • Obtain or renew passport for honeymoon and any inoculations if required
  • Announcement engagement in the newspaper

 Five Months

  • Finalize guest list
  • Order invitations, announcements, and personal stationary and thank you notes
  • Plan Reception
  • Confirm delivery of bridal gown
  • Make appointment for bridal portrait
  • Order wedding cake and grooms cake
  • Arrange transportation for all members of bridal party to and from ceremony & reception locations
  • Review menu and details with caterer
  • Reserve any equipment needed such as tent, chairs, arch, pillars, linens, etc.
  • Register at bridal registry

 Four Months

  • Shop for wedding rings
  • Make final arrangements for ceremony (Make sure contracts are signed and deposits paid)
  • Have mothers coordinate and select their dresses
  • Order all accessories: toasting goblets, ring pillow, flower girl basket, garter, etc.
  • Complete guest lists
  • Check the requirements for a marriage license
  • Begin to shop for the bride’s trousseau
  • Make sure final musical arrangements are made for wedding and reception
  • Register at bridal registry

 Two Months

  • Address the invitations which should be mailed four to six weeks prior to the wedding
  • Order wedding cake(s)
  • Finalize ceremony details with officiate
  • Finalize details with florist, photographer and videographer
  • Make rehearsal arrangements
  • Plan rehearsal dinner
  • Plan bridesmaids’ luncheon
  • Make appointments for hair, nails and make-up
  • Arrange accommodations for out-of-town attendants, guests and family members
  • Keep a gift diary – send thank you notes as gifts arrive
  • Select attendant’s gifts and grooms gift

 One Month

  • Mail invitations if not done already
  • Check wedding party apparel
  • Discuss rehearsal dinner with hosts
  • Get Marriage license
  • Plan your wedding day hair style (bring headpiece & veil)
  • Schedule hair appointment for day of wedding
  • Final check on bridal party clothing
  • Arrange for name and address change
  • Check with caterer / reception venue with any last minute changes
  • Final fitting for wedding gown and bridesmaids’ gowns
  • Purchase going-away outfit
  • Select responsible person to handle guest book and determine its location

 Two Weeks

  • Attend to business and legal details; get necessary forms to change names on Social Security card, driver’s license, insurance and medical plans, and bank accounts; make a will
  • Prepare wedding announcement to be sent to the newspaper
  • Reconfirm accommodations for out-of-town guests
  • Arrange to have possessions and gifts delivered to your home after the wedding

 One Week

  • Contact guests and family members who have not responded
  • Give final count to caterer and review details
  • Go over final details with all professional services you have engaged
  • Give photographer family information and a list of pictures you want
  • Remind rehearsal dinner guests of time and location
  • Plan seating arrangements
  • Plan lineup for receiving line
  • Arrange for someone to assist with last-minute errands to help you dress on wedding day
  • Practice session with hairdresser and makeup artist
  • Start honeymoon packing
  • Wrap groom’s and attendants’ gifts
  • Bridesmaid’s luncheon
  • Go over final details for ceremony and reception with al parties involved

 Day Before

  • Have a manicure & pedicure
  • Attend wedding rehearsal and dinner

 Day Of

  • Eat
  • Hair and Make-up
  • Check wedding dress (pressing / steaming)
  • Begin dressing one and a half hours prior to the ceremony
  • Have pictures of you and attendants
